Descendents of Cee Bar Favorite 8

Only the Best is good enough.

All the cattle in the herd with names beginning with the letter "F" descend from this great cow. Cee Bar Favorite was purchased in for 2000 gns after being imported from Canada. This cow has had a tremendous influence in the herd and in fact on the breed in the U.K. In the last twenty years her descendants have won more major shows than any other female in modern times. At present there are more descendants in the herd than any other family.
Cee Bar Favorite was a granddaughter of the great Canadian Colossal and she was Supreme Champion at the Royal Show in 1980 and the Royal Highland in 1981. She produced four daughters: Flora sired by Walnut of Edgeley Acres, Fleur sired by Mariner of Tangier, Favorite also by Walnut and Frances by Patrick of Breaffy. All four were retained in the herd and descendants of all four are in the herd to this day and most are still named by the original names given them.
Her daughter Frances E10 was probably the best daughter where the combination of pure Irish bloodlines in her sire on to the Canadian bloodlines combined to produce something special. Frances won the Royal Show in 1984 the only time in living memory that a mother and daughter has won this prestigious event. Her descendants in the herd today are some of our best breeding females.

Frances E10's granddaughter Frances O2 was considered by many to be the best cow we ever bred and was undefeated in the 1995 show season. She proved to be an outstanding breeder being the dam of Netherton Foreign Cruz, Supreme Champion at Perth in February 2000 and sold for 6000 gns. Fairfax of Bronte sold for 9000 gns in February 2000, (sire of 2003 Highland Show Champion) Netherton Footloose and Netherton Fabulous Cruz both retained as stock bulls after successful show careers and both have left their mark in the herd.

Her grandson Netherton Figo C244 was Supreme Champion at Perth in 2005 and sold for the highest price for 40 years of 30,000 gns   Also in 2005 her Grand Daughter Netherton Frances C248 equalled the breed record price of 9000 gns in our 80 th Anniversary Sale

Most of her daughters were retained and sons and daughters of embryo's sold are doing well in other herds.

A granddaughter of Frances E10 was sold for 7000 gns in our 80 th Anniversary Sale and another was our successful show cow in 1999 being Reserve Female at the Royal Show. She was sold in our 1999 Matron's Sale for 5000 gns, she in turn was dam of Netherton Friar Fergie sold in February 1999 for 13,000 gns and Netherton Friar Tuck Intermediate Champion at Perth In February 1997 and sold for 6500 gns. A grandson of Frances E10 Mushroom Foxy Lord was Supreme Champion in October 1998.

Flora's descendants have also done well and include Netherton Fandango Supreme Champion at Perth February 1992 and sold for 5000 gns. Netherton Festival Reserve Supreme Champion at Perth October 1995 and sold for 5000 gns, Mushroom Friar Fergus Supreme Champion at both the Royal Highand and Royal Shows in 1996 and Cardona Fiona Supreme Champion at both the Royal Highland and Royal Shows in 1998. In 2000 Netherton Flora Y284 was Junior Champion Female at the Royal Highland and in 2002 she won several Championships including Supreme Champion at the Royal Show.

Fleur's descendants are also worthy of note. Her son Netherton Fergie sold to Harry Cook for 5000 gns and her granddaughter Netherton Fleur S11 was Supreme Champion at the Royal Highland Show in 1997 and Female Champion and Reserve Supreme Champion at the Royal Show in the same year. Fleur S11 sold in our 1998 Matron's Sale for the top price of 8000 gns, another granddaughter sold for 4000 gns the same day. One of her descendants Netheton Fleur Y298 sold for a new Breed record for a Female of 20,000 gns in our 80 th Anniversary Sale, her daughter sold for 7,200 gns in the same sale

Favorite also bred well and her descendants include Netherton Fabian top recorded bull in his year and sold for 3200 gns, Netherton Favorite O22 1st prize Junior Yearling at the 1991 Royal Highland Show.
There are more females from these four lines in the herd than any other family, they have played a great part in our success over the last twenty years. They are noted for their consistent breeding of superior cattle both in our herd and indeed in the breed and their outstanding show record at Perth and both the Highland and Royal Shows during this period.

Some female lines represented in the herd were imported from Canada in 1989 and 1990 and those remaining are the Belle, Karama, Duchess, Corona families. These families have had considerable success in the short time they have been in the herd. Including Netherton Billy Boy Male Champion and Reserve Supreme at the Royal Show in 1998 and sold privately to Fyvie. Netherton Kojak sold at Perth for 5000 gns to Ladeside where he bred exceptionally well.

Netherton Kathleen who after a successful show career sold in our Matron's Sale for 7500 gns.
Netherton Chic Junior Champion at Perth and sold for 4000gns and Netherton Charles 1stat Perth and sold for 7000gns Duchess T59 Reserve Female Champion at the Royal Highland 1996 and winner of the Cridlan Gold Cup for the Best Cow and Calf at the Royal Show in 1997.

These four families have all bred cattle with outstanding performance figures. In 1997 we imported embryo's form DMM Miss Essence 22B the Canadian Show Female of the Year in 1994 and 1995. From those embryo's by T.C Stockman we are establishing the Missie line which is already showing great potential. The same flush produced what many consider to be one of the best bulls in Canada DMM Traction 109 J.

Netherton Missie Y288 was produced from these embryos and she equalled the previous breed Female record of 16,000 gns in our 80 th Anniversary Sale. She was the dam of Netherton Mr Muscle B174 sold for 11,500 gns in February 2004 and Netherton Mr Ronaldo C 249 sold privately to Mrs Thomson for her Coldoch Herd. These female lines were all selected because of the strength of their female lines in Canada and of the original eight importation's only five families have survived our rigorous demands.

The Blackbird, and Pure Pride families came to Netherton from Barnoldby in 1971 but both originally came from Gaidrew. In the Barnoldby and Gaidrew herds these two families both bred exceptionally well in the 1950's and 1960's producing several Male and Female Champions at Perth and many high priced animals. Since coming to Netherton they have continued to breed successfully and both families have produced show winners and high priced animals.
Other families which came from Barnoldby were the Penny and Pam lines. The former has proved to be a great female producing line but has also left bulls selling up to 13000 gns. The latter originally came from Kildinny. This family produced Planet of Barnoldby who was Intermediate Champion in Perth in 1970 and was purchased for the Netherton herd where he consistently produced high performance cattle at a time when most of the cattle in the breed were too small. In 1987 Netherton Pam G8 was Reserve Female Champion at the Royal Highland and Female Champion and Reserve Supreme at the Great Yorkshire Show. Over the years many of our best selling bulls have been produced from this family, they have always had superior performance figures, are consistently thick with plenty of size and depth.
The Lady Jane family was introduced in 1981 with the purchase of Hillsgrove Nan after she was Champion at the Carrick-on-Shannon Sale. She was dam of Netherton Lord James Supreme Champion at Perth in 1986 and Netherton Lady Jane F50 Female Champion at both the Royal Highland and Royal Shows in 1990. This family also produced Netherton Lady Jane O11 Supreme hampion at the Royal Show 1994 and Netherton Lady Jane X13 upreme Champion at the Royal Highland Show 2000, she also won six other Breed Championships in the same year.

This family has consistently bred good bulls and several of them have sold to herds as Stcck bulls including Lord James sold at 5000 gns to Saltersgate,Lord Joe sold at 5000 gns to Cragg, ord Jonny sold at 5500 gns to Attwell,Lord Jack sold at 1700 gns to Warren and from there to Fyvie and Lord Jockey sold at 11000 gns to Linburn.

In 1999 we went to New Zealand and selected females for flushing. Since then we have imported approx. 90 embryos from these females and several new families are becoming established in the herd.

Three of these females were in the Ranui Stud and the three families have been called Rachael's, Rebecca's and Trendy Miss's All the original imports for these three lines were sired by T.C. Stockman 365 but more recently the Rachael line has had embryos imported sired by Stevenson's Royce 741C. These three families have already produced two of our stock bulls Netherton Royal Sovereign A072 and Netherton Trendy Man A085 Netherton Rachael A073 was Junior Female Champion at the 2002 Royal Show. The other three lines imported are from the world famous Kaharau Stud and include some of the breed oldest and most famous families. The Erica's, Eldoma's Pride of Aberdeen and Rose of Advie families all came from this source and are sired by T.C Stockman 2164 and Stevenson's Royce 741C.

At the February 2000 Perth Sale Kim of Fordafourie was purchased for 7000 gns and has proved to be an outstanding breeder. Her sons have all sold to pedigree herds and one sire by TLA Northern Samurai has been retained as our Junior Stock Bull. Her daughters are all retained our 80 th Anniversary Sale when four of her daughters sold for 7,500 gns, 6,000 gns, 5,500 gns and 4,000 gns. Kim herself was the first animal sold in the sale and equalled the then breed Female record of 16,000 gns. Her son Netherton Kiwi Fab C272 set a new record price of 10,000 gns for a bull calf in the same sale.

Kim is reckoned to be one of the best cows in the breed and was born from an embryo imported from New Zealand sired by the record-breaking bull Atahua Westpoint her dam being in the famous Kaharau Stud and one of their best cows. This line will be known as our Kim line and we have great hopes for their future.

Our policy is to purchase any superior female line which we feel can make a contribution to our breeding policy, but all the new arrivals will be assessed alongside our own cattle and only if they prove themselves will they become established in the herd. We will go anywhere in the world to look for superior female lines but they will only become established in the herd if they meet the strict selection criteria, which we impose.

At Netherton we put a lot of emphasis on our female lines and new lines are only introduced if they have proved that they come from a line of consistent breeders. We have also applied these criteria to the donor females of any of our imported embryo's. We still firmly believe in the old saying "That only Breeding Tells"
