Two heifers sold to Czech Republic

Netherton are pleased to announce the sale of two 11 month old heifers and embryo's to Michal Stebelsky of the Czech Republic to compliment his growing herd, this follows the sale of Netherton Black Tiger last year to the Czech Republic.

Netherton Annie M717 is by the proven easy calving sire HF El Tigre 28U - the 2009 World Forum Yearling Bull Champion - and out of Netherton Annie H474 who was one of our top donor females before being sold to Sam and Sarah Matchett of the Birches herd earlier this year. This family originates from the great Northline donor cow Southland Awestruck 117R who we believe to be one of the top daughters of the top maternal bull TC Freedom and herself was a show winning heifer in Canada and has bred champion females for Northline. The Annie family is the highest performance family at Netherton.

The other heifer, Netherton Fiona M721, is by Netherton Bionic J535 who was a G13 son out of the Big Sky Beauty 009 who has bred many herd sires and was one of Canada's elite performance females. Her dam Cardona Fiona was bought at one of the Cardona female sales along with her dam for 4500gns. This family traces back to Cee Bar Favorite who was the foundation cow at Netherton for all the F families and has been the backbone of our herd over the past 30 years.

The embryo's sold come from our top donor cows, firstly Netherton Fluer L628, an Ardrossan Admiral A2 daughter out of the 25,000 Winter National Cow Champion Netherton Fleur G413 and are by the top American bull SAV Brave 8320. The second of the donor cows, Dunira Eudora H458, a The Moss Mr Eshton daughter is out of Netherton Eastern Cruz's full sister and our foundation Red Angus female Netherton Red Essence H483 who is a daughter of Red Sten Essence 42G who was named Canadian show female of the year in 1999 and then as a 10 year old cow in 2008 and has left over $500,000 worth of progeny sales. Red Essence H483 was also first at the English National Show and first and reserve female champion at the National Calf Show in 2009.

We wish Michal all the best with his purchases and look forward to following the progression of his Black and Red Angus herds.

Netherton Bellringer L647 sells to Kincardine Castle

Netherton are pleased to announce the sale of Netherton Bellringer L647 to the Kincardine herd of Robert McNeil for an undisclosed price.

Bellringer was picked by Ian and Marjory Davidson who manage the herd at Auchterarder, which numbers 80 breeding females, after seeing him at Netherton and being impressed with his full brother Netheton Bionic J535, who was retained as a stock bull at Netherton last year. Having returned to Netherton to view his calves, they decided Bellringer would be an ideal bull to follow their two highly successful herd sires Netherton Figo C244 - Perth Champion February 2005 and was purchased for 30,000gns - and Blelack Krackerjack Lad H914 - who was the highest priced bull in Stirling 2009 when he made 15,000gns.

Born December 2011, Bellringer is our top performance bull of his crop. His sire is one of America's top performance and show sires, G13 Steel, who was one of the most powerful and popular Hoff Scotch Cap herd sires from the Lassie family that also produced Scotch Cap and Valedictorian Sc 925. G13 Steel was Roll of Victory intermediate champion bull of the year in 2006.

Bellringer's dam, Big Sky Beauty 009, has been one of the most influential females in the Netherton herd in the last decade. Beauty is one of Canada's elite performance cows and top donor cow in the Big Sky herd. Her first daughter Netherton Beauty H453 was sold for a high undisclosed figure to Saville Angus and her second - and full sister to Bellringer - Netherton Beauty J533, is one of our top donor cows and is the dam of Netherton Big Ben M656, our 2012 show calf who was first and calf champion at Perth, first, calf and reserve male champion at Keith Show and first, bull calf, reserve junior bull and reserve overall calf champion at the Summer National.

Miss Effie is sired by Ankonian Werner Wild Fire who was the 2007 Reserve National Champion bull and high selling bull at the NWSS, while Providence is from a sixth generation Pathfinder dam and sired by the high selling bull in SAV's 2005 sale SAV 004 Predominant 4438 and is one of America's leading AI sires.

Aberdeen-Angus Lifetime Achievement Award for Dad!

We were delighted to witness Dad being presented with the prestigious Aberdeen-Angus Cattle Society’s Hugh Watson Lifetime Achievement Award at the Society’s Annual Dinner and Dance in conjunction with this month’s Stirling Bull Sales.

The Award, which is named after one of the original founders of the breed, recognises and rewards individuals who have significantly helped improve the Aberdeen-Angus breed throughout the years.

There’s no doubting he’s had an amazing career in the breed and is very much a highly respected stalwart in this country and across the world. For those of you who might not be so familiar with Dad’s past, here’s a bit of a summary of how he’s got where he is today.

aa dinner 020

On leaving school at 15, Dad joined the Young Farmers Federation and was a founder member of Allanwater Club. A regular stock judger, by the time he was 22 he had won every competition including the dairy judging and when he was 18 he led the Scottish team to victory in the International Beef judging setting up a score that was never equalled in the history of that Competition.

In 1955 he was invited to train the Scottish team which he did successfully and also trained the winning teams in 1956 and 1957. He often says it gives him great pleasure to see some of the lads he trained being so successful in today’s pedigree beef world.

He was appointed to the Aberdeen-Angus Cattle Society Council in 1966 when he was at least 20 years younger than anyone else on Council and the following year was appointed chairman of the Shows and Sales Committee and also the Judges and Referees Committee.

In 1970 he was appointed junior Vice President and the following year the first imported cattle were registered in the Herd Book.

He served his first term as President in 1973/74 and during that term he attended his first World Forum. Since then he has attended at least nine Forums and Mini Forums and continually advocates that the Aberdeen-Angus is a world breed and different types exist to suit the different countries. He then followed up with a second term as President in 1988/89. In total he served over 30 years in either Council or Pedigree Cattle Services and chaired most of the Societies Committee at least once.

During the 1970’s when support for some of the shows was so low that breeders were in danger of losing Angus classes, Dad, along with George Cormack and Willie Thomson entered shows such as the Royal, Great Yorkshire, Grantown and Black Isle. They shared transport and stockmen and kept the classes until the popularity of the breed returned.

A highly respected judge of cattle, he has judged at most of the shows in the UK and Ireland including three times at Perth, 14 times at Carrick on Shannon and the All Ireland Show four times.

He has also had unrivalled success in the show ring, culminating in six breed championships at the Royal show, five at the Royal Highland and has won the Show Herd of the Year a massive 10 times.

A keen traveller to view Angus cattle across the world, he has also imported some of the most influential sires of the breed including TLA Northern Samuria, Darlene Cruz and Cee Bar Favourite.

The Society would have to go some way to find a breeder more supportive and committed to the breed, remaining true to the Angus breed in his 80 years at Netherton, a time which has never seen him miss a Perth/Stirling bull sale since he was six years old.

NETHERTON FERGIE L651 SELLS TO CRAGG HERD

Netherton are pleased to announce the sale of the Netherton Fergie L651, a 12 month old bull, to Juliet Swires of Cragg Angus Harrogate, North Yorkshire, for an undisclosed price.

Fergie is the first son born at Netherton by Netherton Mr Brazilian E377 who was bought back by Balmachie and Netherton after seeing what an outstanding job he had done at Housesteads Angus of Messrs R J and L A Acton Northumberland. Mr Brazilian semen rights are with Cogent and he is one of the top semen selling bulls over all beef breeds with Cogent. Mr Brazilian is a proven easy calver and his progeny are showing all the great characteristics of the breed. His dam is Netherton Missie A114, a previous breed record price female when she sold for 31,500. Missie is sired by Netherton Fabulous Cruz, who like his father Dalrene Cruz, dominates the breed for muscle and his dam Netherton Frances O2 was maybe the best ever TLA Northern Samurai daughter ever bred at Netherton who was the undefeated show cow of 1995. Netherton Missie A114’s dam, Netherton Missie Y288, is a TC Stockman 365 daughter who sold for 16,800 who herself is a daughter of the twice Canadian show female of the year DMM Miss Essence 22B who is also the dam of The Moss Mr Eshton D409 the 2010 Royal Highland Show Male champion. Missie A114 is also the dam of Netherton Mr Rader J527 who is one of Genus's top selling Angus bulls.

Fergie's maternal line has also an impressive line up of the breed’s great females in his pedigree with his dam Netherton Fleur G413 being the top daughter of The Moss Mr Eshton D409 who was sold for 25,000 in 2012 to Saville Angus. She was cow champion at the 2010 Winter National Show in Carlisle as well as Supreme Champion at Braco, Perth and Grantown shows that year. She is also the dam of Netherton Fleur K566 who was champion at Drymen Show and 1st prize at the 2011 Summer National. Fleur G413 has been a top donor cow at Netherton and embryo's can be found in America, Germany and Luxembourg from her. Her dam, Netherton Fleur D334, was supreme champion at the 2010 Royal Highland Show when a half share was sold for 10,000 and her grand dam, Netherton Fleur Y298, was another previous breed record priced female when she sold for 20,000gns in 2004.

Fergie is one of the top bulls we have bred and with more than 100,000 worth of cows in his pedigree, as well as show champions, we are sure he will do the job Juliet wants in her successful Cragg herd.

Speaking on her purchase Juliet Swires said: "I was looking for a bull that oozed quality to enable us to continue to produce classy feminine females and believe Fergie certainly ticks all the boxes. As well as being a superb young bull with great fleshing ability, he has an outstanding pedigree which in my opinion features some of the best females the breed has ever seen. "
