DMM Miss Essence 22B

Netherton Missie Y288

Netherton Missie A114

In 1997 we imported embryos from DMM Miss Essence 22B, the twice Canadian show female of the year in 1994. Added with TC Stockman 36S we started one of the most famous female lines at Netherton, the Missie family.

Not only is 22B a great show cow, she is a great breeder having bred the Canadian show bull of the year DMM Flex, as well as DMM Traction, one of the best breeding bulls in Canada.

A full sister to Traction, Missie Y288 was the foundation cow at Netherton and went on to sell for 16,000gns at our anniversary sale in 2004. She bred one of our leading performance sons Netherton Mr Muscle who sold for 11,500gns in Perth that year, as well as Netherton Ronaldo who is sire at Coldoch.

Her daughter Missie A114 was a show heifer in 2002 and was champion at the Black isle show at only 13 months of age beating our royal show champion cow that day. Like her mum, Missie A114 was in our donor programme and has bred sons to average 5000. Her daughters are greatly admired as well, including Balmachie Missie who was supreme champion at the National Show in 2008. Missie A114 sold at our matron sale in 2007 for 30,000gns, a new female breed record. Embryos from Missie A114 have been sold to the Youngdale herd in Canada making them the first embryos Netherton have exported back to Canada.

In 2011 Netherton Mr Rader J527 was sold to Genus and semen rights to Netherton Mr Brazilian E377 were sold to Cogent

Netherton Frances A103

This influential family descends from Cee Bar Favourite who was purchased for 20,000gns after she was imported from Canada. Favourite has made a lasting impressing on Netherton and many other herds and has more show winning descendents than any other female in modern times.

Favourite was a granddaughter of the great Canadian colossal and she was supreme champion at the Royal Show in 1980 and the Royal Highland in 1981.

A Favourite daughter, Netherton Frances E10 sired by Patrick of Breaffy, was one of her best, where the combination of pure Irish and Canadian bloodlines produced something really special. Frances E10 followed in her mother’s footsteps to win the Royal Show in 1984, the only time a mother and daughter have both won this event.

A granddaughter of E10, Netherton Frances 02 was considered by many as the best cow we have ever bred. Unbeaten in her 1995 show season, she also bred fantastically well. Her offspring includes Netherton Foreign Cruz, supreme champion at Perth in 2000 and sold for 6000gns, Fairfax of Bronte who sold for 9000gns and went on to sire the 2003 Royal Highland champion, Netherton Footloose who was junior champion at both The Royal and Royal highland in 1997 before being retained as a stock bull where he sired Netherton Fabulous Cruz who sold for 13,000gns.

Daughters of France 02 include Netherton Frances A103, mother of the 30,000gns Netherton Figo and Netherton Frances C48 who sold for 9000gns.

Another granddaughter of E10, Netherton Frances S30 was reserve female champion at The Royal Show before selling in our 1999 matron sale for 5000gns. She was the dam of Netherton Friar Fergie who sold for 13,000gns and Netherton friar Tuck who was intermediate champion at Perth in 1997 and sold for 6500gns.

The Frances family have quite simply bred more generations of champions for us than any other family at Netherton. Embryos from Netherton Frances F408 were sold to Miller Wilson’s DMM herd in Canada after she was picked out as a calf by Lee and Dawn Wilson.

In 2011 Netherton Frances K550 won the junior female and reserve female championship at the Royal Highland Show and the junior, female and reserve supreme championship at the Summer National

Netherton Flora E356

Another great family as a result of Cee Bar Favourite, the Flora family have produced many of our top quality lines, with the original Flora being sired by Walnut of Edgeley Acres.

Females include Netherton Flora Y284 who was junior female champion at the Royal Highland in 2000 and overall champion at the Royal Show in 2002. Her calf at foot Flora B162 went on to be one of the top donor cows of the herd and in her 11 flushes she has produced 142 embryos. Her progeny include Balmachie Frankie who was supreme champion at Perth in 2007 and went on to sell for the joint top price of 10,000gns, as well as Netherton Four Square, a stock bull in Northern Ireland and Netherton Flora E356 who was our top price heifer in our matron sale in 2007 when she sold for 5500gns. Flora B162 went on to sell for 6500gns.

Other Flora offspring include Netherton Fandango, supreme champion in Perth 1992 and sold for 5000gns to Ewan Brewis, Eastfield, Netherton Festival who was reserve supreme in Perth in 1995 and sold for 5000gns; Mushroom Friar Fergus who was supreme champion at both the Royal Highland and Royal Shows in 1996 and Cardona Fiona, supreme champion at both the Royal Highland and Royal Show in 1998. Our top price bull at Perth in February 2009 was another son of Flora B162 who sold for 8500gns to Logie. We have also sold another son for a high undisclosed price to Dovea Genetics Ireland, both these sons were sired by The Moss Mr Eshton.

The Kim family originates from the famous Kararau stud in New Zealand. In 2000 we purchased Kim of Fordafourie in partnership with Halbeath for 7000gns. In just nine years, Kim has had a tremendous effect on the herd being the highest revenue generating cow, selling more than 200,000 worth of progeny. Kim has more than 40 animals registered in the herd book.

Many of her sons have had a lasting effect on herds in the UK including our very own Netherton Kiwi Sam, retained as a stock sire for us before we sold him to Lady Croft. Netherton Krackerjack B164 sold to Lockerley; Halbeath King Kong B036 sold for 6000gns to Linburn and then on to Eastfield; Halbeath Kojak was retained as a stock sire and Netherton Kiwi Fab was sold as a calf for 10,500 to Barwise.

Another greatly admired son of Kim, Balmachie Keystone owned in partnership by John Lascelles and Pip Robson was reserve interbreed champion at The Royal Highland show 2009.

Daughters of Kim are also in great demand, with four of our last offering at our 80th anniversary sale grossing 23,000gns. Another daughter of Kim was sold privately in 2006 to Halbeath.

Netherton Lady Jane C240

The Lady Jane family originates from Ireland when we purchased Hillsgrove Nan in 1981 after she was champion at Carrick-on-Shannon. Nan was the dam of Netherton Lord James who was supreme champion in Perth in 1986 and Netherton Lady Jane F50 female champion at both the Royal Highland and Royal Shows in 1990.

Another female from this powerful family was Netherton Lady Jane 011 who won 11 championships in 1994 including the Royal Show. In 2000 Netherton Lady Jane X13 was supreme champion at the Royal highland Show and a further six breed championships that year.  Shown 16 times in two years as a heifer, she won her class 15 times and sold for an undisclosed figure to Jerusalem. Netherton Fleur D334

The Fleur family originates from the great Canadian cow Cee Bar Favourite on the dam side and Mariner of Tangier on the sire side. Following Favourite’s footsteps, Fleur females have bred exceptionally well over the years and include Netherton fleur Y298 who sold for the breed’s then record of 20,000gns in 2004. She bred us Netherton Fleur’s Legacy F390 who sold for a record calf price of 15,000 for a half share to Old Glenort.

Another from the family, Netherton Fleur S11 won more than 30 first prizes in her show career making her the most consistent prize winner we have ever produced. She won nine championships in 1997 including the supreme championship at the Royal Highland and then at the Royal a week later she was female and reserve overall champion. She also won three interbreed championships and reserve interbreed at the Royal Highland. Fleur S11 was sold in 1999 for 8000gns the breed’s top priced female of that year.

Netherton Fleur W6 was another great show cow winning five breed championships and three interbreed titles in 1999 before being sold in 2001 to Barwise for an undisclosed figure. Fleur W6 was the dam of Netherton Fleur B199 who sold at our matron sale in 2007 for 10,000gns and carried on her successful show career in Ireland.

At six years of age Netherton Fleur D334 won the senior cow and calf class at the 2010 Royal Highland Show and then went on to take the best cow championship, overall female championship and overall supreme championship. She then teamed up with The Moss Mr Eshton D409 to win the interbreed beef pairs competition.

Netherton Evita E367

The Evita family was introduced to Netherton in the 1960’s with the purchase of Evenna of Haymount at the Kirklandbank dispersal sale.

This family has consistently produced good cattle with bulls going on to breed many top price and show wining cattle, including Netherton Eastern Cruz who was the breed’s leading young bull in 1999 for beef value and who sold privately to Lockerley for a five figure price after he was first prize at the Royal Show in 1999. He then went on to sire the reserve champion bull at Perth in 2003 which sold for 7500gns.

Another top performance bull Netherton Emmerdale sold for 5000gns to Cragg and was the top performance bull in 1997. Netherton Elsam sold to Ireland and has done very well over there; Netherton Evening Cruz Y310 was reserve intermediate champion in Perth in 2001 and sold for 5000gns; Netherton Easter Cruz sold for 6500gns to Solway and Netherton eastern Promise sold privately to Strathdee.

Females from this family have equally done well selling to a top of 5000gns for Netherton Evita A127 in 2007. This family has also produced many of our top donor cows over the years. Netherton Evita E367 has just joined our embryo flushing programme having weaned our heaviest bull calf in 2008.

Females from this family have done well, including Netherton Blackbird B172 who was sold for 12,000gns at our Matrons sale in 2007 to Dunira. Embryos from this cow and her daughter Blackbird D309 have sold well and progeny can be found in several herds.

Bulls from the Blackbird lines have sold to 6500gns for Netherton Black Beckham, a first prize winner in Perth in 2005 and Netherton Red Blackeyes sold for a then Red Angus breed record of 5000gns.

Netherton Flower G417

Calfward Flower D062

Yet again, another descendent from Cee Bar Favourite, this is a similar family to the Fleur line with Netherton Flower F2 coming from the same line as Netherton Fleur S11. We lost this family for a few years through our policy of selling all females at six years old through our Matrons sale.

Flower females have bred well for us producing a reserve intermediate champion at Perth in 2002 before selling for 6500gns and Netherton Flower S13 who sold for 3000gns to Calfward in our 1999 Matrons sale where she was foundation cow for the Flower line. At the Calfward dispersal the Flower family produced many of the top prices including Calfward Flower D062, who we bought for 3800gns.

She has been a great investment as her first calf Netherton Future Cruz sold for 10,000gns to Germany in 2008 making him the dearest bull to be sold to mainland Europe. Her first heifer calf Netherton Flower G417 was third at the national Calf Show and is greatly admired for her natural thickness.

Netherton Rachel A132

The Rachel family comes from the number one donor cow in New Zealand Ranui W 319 who we bought in more than 30 embryos from in 1999. She is sired by the $155,000 Atahua Legacy and is the dam of Ranui W Impact who was the New Zealand National champion and sold for $43,000 in 1999. We bought in semen from Impact which left us a top herd of maternal daughters which have topped at 9000gns as well as siring Netherton Future Impact who sold to Germany for 10,000gns.

Embryos bought in were by Stevensons Royce and the legendry TC Stockman 365 which produced many greats including Netherton Royal Sovereign A072; Netherton Royal Stockman, stock bull at Retanach; Netherton Rachel A073, junior female champion at the Royal Show in 2002; Netherton Rachel A070, dam of the Perth reserve supreme champion in 2006 who sold for 11,000gns for Balmachie and Netherton Rachel A132 dam of Netherton Ronaldo G424.

The family has had a huge influence in the herd with three stock bulls being used in the last 10 years we have found this family’s ability to produce big, fleshy, powerful daughters is second to none.

The Karama family was founded with the purchase of Fisher Bold Gold who was shown successfully in Canada being a member of the reserve group of three at the Edmonton Farmfair which was a big competition back then with over 30 groups competing annually.

Bold Gold originates from the famous Glenmere Karama family which has bred so well in Canada and are usually some of the highest performance cattle Netherton.

Bold Gold turned out to be a good breeder with two exceptional daughters being retained and her sons selling well. One daughter Netherton Kathleen R15 was our show cow 1998 where she won Breed Championships at Kirriemuir, Black Isle and Grantown Shows before being sold for 7500gns at out third Matrons sale where she was our highest price female and the breed’s top price female of 1998. Kathleen R15 was also the dam of Netheton Kojak who sold for 5000gns to Ladside where he sired many show winning and high sellers for them.

In 2006 we bought embryos from Big Sky Beauty 009 by The top American bull Hoff Limited Edition to establish the Beauty family at Netherton. Her first daughter Netherton Beauty H453 is already in our donor programme and has one of our top heifers this year. Two sons out of this flush were our top performance bulls and one, Netherton Blitzen G445 is now stock bull in the Isauld herd. The other, Netherton Big Edition H460 was our top bull of 2008 and was retained as a Stock bull at Netherton where his first crop of calves are very impressive and have been greatly admired by all who have seen them. They include Netherton Fleur K566 who was Calf Champion at Perth Show and Netherton Future Edition J560 who was 1st at Drymen Show and was shown with his dam Netherton Fleur D334 when she was Supreme Champion at Royal Highland show. Red Sten Essence 42G

Maybe the best Red cow in Canada, Red Sten Essence was named Canadian SHOW Female of the year in 1999 and then as a 10 year old cow she was named again Canadian show Female of the Year which takes some doing for a 10 year old cow. Other notable show successes include reserve supreme interbreed champion at the Lady's Classic at Agribition as a yearling. As a two year old she won grand champion female at Farmfair, Agribition, Gold Show and the Calgary Stampede, as well as interbreed champion at Agribition, Gold Show and the Calgary Stampede. As a 10 year old she was reserve supreme champion at Agribition. 42G isn't only a great show cow, but her breeding record is also great with over $500,000 worth of progeny sales from her including a bid of 31,000 for a third interest in Red DMM Brylor Thump 2T.

Netherton Annie H474

The Annie family originates from the great Northline donor cow Southland Awestruck 117R who we believe to be one of the top daughters of TC Freedom, the great maternal bull form North America. Awestruck carries plenty of thickness and size for the UK market and is a proven breeder in Canada with show winning daughters just like herself. The family also descends from the top performance bull TC Grid Topper 355 and are the easiest calving and fleshing family we have at Netherton and are among our top performance figured cattle in the herd. A daughter, Netherton Annie H474, has been a great donor cow for us and embryo's can be found in Luxembourg from her. A full brother, Netherton Archie, is stock sire in the Gear herd in Cornwall where he is breeding extremely well.
